Progress at 10MW battery storage site

Good progress is being made at the 10MW battery storage development designed and planned by Prospus Energy on behalf of our client Low Carbon Limited.

Progress at Cleator

The Prospus Energy team have decades of experience in delivering a variety of commercial scale energy and storage facilities and this experience and expertise enabled us to deliver a successful design and planning permission.

The 10MW development sits adjacent to an existing electrical substation and the scheme was designed to minimise visual impact from the containers housing the batteries and associated infrastructure but also to improve the visual appearance of the existing substation by a planting scheme around the site.

Alistair Fell, a Director at Prospus Group said; “Our expert team have been instrumental in delivering a number of varied energy generation and storage projects from the first wind to hydrogen energy storage facility in the UK to multi megawatt solar parks and biomass district heating schemes. We use this expertise to deliver projects efficiently and pragmatically. Prospus Energy is currently working on a variety of energy projects across the UK including battery storage, smart grid, gas and diesel power stations.”

The battery development at Bigrigg, West Cumbria is due to be commissioned later this year and will help National Grid manage supply to local customers and improve frequency response. Prospus represents Low Carbon Ltd, one of the UK’s largest independent renewable energy investors who was successful in winning the tender for 2 of the 8 projects awarded by National Grid. The Woodend substation project at Bigrigg is expected to be the one of first of this new generation of projects to become operational.

It certainly comes at an opportune moment as increasing focus is put on battery technology, backed by a Government announcement of a £264m investment in research and development. The Prospus Energy team continues to grow and is looking forward to the commissioning of the project at Bigrigg.
